I’m currently taking an introductory art class, and our first assignment outside of class is to create two completely different portraits of trees on campus (which are in high supply, since Rhodes is, after all, an arboretum!)—one portrait is to be strictly a visual representation of the tree, and the other is to our interpretation of a different tree’s “personality.” It’ll be interesting to see everyone else’s drawings, since I’m sure no two of us will have chosen the same tree, and we all seem to have different approaches to drawing and levels of experience.
In other news, we’re currently reading The Stoic Philosophy of Seneca in Dr. Jansen’s Search Class, and seeing as every student comes from a slightly different background, it’s been interesting being exposed to so many different philosophies. In high school, required courses were sort of a drag, but Search has ended up being one of my favorite courses thus far!
